Watching TV inspires online shopping

Retailers have been urged to consider re-investment in TV advertising following recent survey results showing that the number of consumers regularly shopping online whilst watching television is rising.

A survey by Deloitte and Gfk found that, of the 4,000 shoppers surveyed, over half admit to surfing the net whilst also watching TV, with 45 per cent of these people visiting shopping sites.

Jolyon Barker, Global Lead for Technology, Media & Telecommunications at Deloitte, suggested that capitalising on this growing trend would be beneficial to multichannel retailers and reminded them of the power of television advertising.

“Television, via a programme or an advert, can provide the impulse for a purchase,” Barker added.
