Bakery retailer Greggs is en route to acquiring the 90 new stores it targeted at the start of the year, which will help create a plethora of retail jobs at the business.
Property agent Mason Owen has recently secured 12 properties in the north-west of England, including locations in Glossop, Llandudno, Altrincham and at the University of Manchester, where Greggs will be able to open up shops.
Greggs already has 1,400 shops in the UK, employing approximately 19,000 people, but the number of retail jobs at the firm could grow by 6,000 in the coming years thanks to an ambitious store opening programme.
Business appears to be going well, with trading results for the first 18 weeks to May 8th 2010 showing total sales growth of 2.6 per cent and like-for-like sales inflation of 0.6 per cent.
On the back of this success, Mason Owen has been tasked with finding more than 20 properties for Greggs, and the company’s Director Gary Turner said he is “delighted” to be involved in the baker’s expansion project.
He added: “The Mason Owen retail team is very much looking forward to helping Greggs grow its shop portfolio over the next few years and are excited by its plans.”
