It may have increased its number of stores by 61 during the course of 2009, but bargain retailer 99p Stores is eying further growth this year.
Commercial Director of the company Hussein Lalani told retailmoves.com today that the firm would like to have opened a total of 200 stores before 2010 comes to an end.
Inevitably, as the business looks to add to the 126 stores it had at the start of the year, retail jobs will become available. Indeed, a 99p Stores opened its doors to the public in Peckham, south London last Friday, creating a number of employment opportunities for the local community.
Each new opening creates around 30 retail jobs, meaning roughly 2,000 positions - from cashiers to store managers - should be made available throughout the course of the year.
Mr Lalani said discount shops have become much more acceptable since the onset of the credit crunch, and 99p Stores is one of the few retail companies taking on sites in the current economic climate.
He also revealed he is “very confident” about the year ahead in retail and thinks the 99p Stores business is “geared up” to carry on with its extraordinary recent growth.
