Job Description

Store Manager, £28-32,000 + benefits (including private medical cover, pension, target related bonus and 28 days holiday).  Yarnton, Near Oxford.

I am recruiting a Store Manager to manage the flagship store of a family run and award winning chain of food retail stores.  The business has been established for over 50 years and has an excellent reputation for serving the community through the provision of local produce and exceptional customer service.

As Store Manager you will oversee the effective and efficient operation of the food retail store and associated businesses (including Post Office, Subway franchise and forecourt) to ensure the customers receive a first class shopping experience in terms of service, standards and availability. You will also strive to maximise sales and profit levels across all departments.

Store Manager Responsibilities include:

  • Managing and leading a team of up to 14 staff at any one time including an Assistant Manager, Cashiers and Shop Floor staff (a team of 45 staff in total)

  • Financial control through the management of sales, staffing levels, wastage etc.

  • Recruitment, training and development of the store team

  • Merchandising and developing product categories

  • Optimising customer service through detailed stock and order adherence and effective scheduling of team members

  • Proactively develop ways to improve store standards and develop the business

  • Auditing store to ensure full legal adherence and staff compliance to all due diligence practices and Company policies and procedures

  • Encourage positive relationships with the community via involvement with suppliers and local organisations, e.g. schools and charities.

Store Manager, Skills and Experience required:

  • 3 years’ + experience within a food (or fast moving) retail environment

  • Management experience with the ability to provide clear direction and support

  • A proven track record of effective customer service.

  • A good working knowledge of stock control and ordering procedures.

  • Experience of effectively identifying and reviewing finance and budgetary controls

  • The ability to contribute ideas and implement procedures to improve quality standards to benefit the business

  • PC literate

  • A good level of verbal and numerical reasoning

  • As this role is shop floor focused you will need to be energetic with a good level of physical fitness

  • Basic Food Handling Certificate preferred.
