17 Jun 2009 - Kate McCarthy - Managing Director at McCarthy Recruitment

The current retail climate has increased the number of candidates in the marketplace seeking work. The competition for a new job is fierce and candidates need assistance and coaching to improve their chances at securing a new role that will enhance their career, as well as meeting their personal aspirations. A professional retail recruitment business will ensure that candidates are assisted with understanding what options are available to them and will be realistic about their career history, matching opportunities with their experience and cultural values. Applying for a role through the right recruitment business increases a candidate’s chance in securing the job as the consultancy will know their client, understand the client’s expectations, be able to secure an interview quickly and be able to assist the candidate through the full recruitment process. This should include aspects of the recruitment process such as offer negotiation; CV writing, interview preparation and research. Candidates should also be provided with a dedicated consultant that works on their behalf and that they are able to build a trusted partnership with. Candidates who blanket send their CV to as many companies as possible tend to become frustrated, quite often the recruitment process takes a much longer time as their CV is merely one of many that have been received by that retailer. At McCarthy our consultants are friendly, supportive, open and honest, most are ex retailers and they know the retail industry Inside out, they champion their candidates and as such reduce the time taken to get them an interview and ultimately back in to employment. At McCarthy we take the long view, investing in relationships to become the preferred consultancy for all our clients and candidates. That’s what delivering a high quality; efficient recruitment service is all about. Register with McCarthy Recruitment by sending your CV to apply@mccarthyrecruitment.com quoting retailmoves.

24 Jun 2009 - Spartan

3 comments all saying pretty much the same thing. With so little differentiation between agencies is it any wonder that candidates send their CV everywhere?

24 Jun 2009 - Will

Hi Spartan, All 3 comments from the UK's leading Rec Cons make good points about the general state of the retail job market at present. Kate and Tom are in agreement about the advantages of using a recruitment consultancy which gives good credibility to their industry and reassures candidates and employers that these are widely held views. To be fair Neil makes some very seperate points about how different recruitment consultancies can represent candidates and employers in the retail sector. We are launching a Guide to Recruitment Consultancies in the Retail Sector next month which will really break down the differences between each retail recruitment consultancy for candidates and employers alike so you can match your requirements with their expertise. We are though looking for more editorial comment from retail professionals about the industry from both a candidate, employer and recruitment consultancy point of view so if you want to feature email me info@retailmoves.com. Who is 'Spartan'? What angle is he coming from? The Stig has recently revealed himself - will you...? Will
